white_crucifixion-1Was Marc Chagall the greatest religious painter  of his time? Many seem to think so. Perhaps it is because the religious nature of his work has always been downplayed in favor of his culture or the times in which he lived.

Maya Balakirsky Katz over at the Oxford University Press blog has just published an article that examines this aspect of Chagall that we are just now beginning to understand.
